Hungarian RFC Customer Day
On Thursday, 5 September 2024, the traditional Hungarian RFC Customer Day took place in Budapest. The event, gathering customers of all four freight corridors, which Hungary participates in, was this year hosted by RFC AMBER.
The afternoon event, taking place in a restaurant in the center of Budapest, allowed Hungarian customers and corridor members to gather in a casual and pleasant atmosphere to discuss current issues concerning the Rail Freight Corridors.
The discussion evolved around two main topis: The new European capacity regulation and its impact on capacity allocation processes in general and freight corridors in particular and secondly the new TEN-T-Regulation establishing the European Transport Corridors (ETCs) and leading to the geographical alignments of the RFCs becoming adapted and giving the RFCs certain new roles.
Participants also informed about practical experiences from daily operations at border crossings, giving valuable insight in specific challenges. Also, the importance of infrastructure improvements was highlighted. In this context, the facilitation of freight traffic on the Hungarian section of RFC AMBER through the new triangle track at Zalaszentiván was emphasized, and attention was drawn to positive effects of previous infrastructure improvements, such as the electrification of the Western Hungarian North-South route.
Light food and drinks were served during the event and participants expressed the wish to continue the exchange in upcoming occasions.
