On 19 October 2023 the Baltic-Adriatic Forum took for the first time place in the Hungarian capital Budapest. Dr. Gerhard Troche, Managing Director of RFC AMBER, gave a speech about the contribution of RFC AMBER to the Baltic-Adriatic transport axis and participated in a Roundtable on Hungary's role in the TEN-T transport corridors and international supply chains.

On 5 October 2023 RFC AMBER and RFC Baltic-Adriatic held their second joint meeting with the Railway and Terminal Advisory Groups of both corridors in the Italian capital Rome. RFC Amber is presenting its fourth Annual Report. The new report gives a comprehensive summary about the activities and achievements of 2022. It was the first year after the pandemic, however a new crisis of a totally different nature, with a war in our neighbourhood broke out in the early months of the year which also brought changes and new challenges.

On 30 May 2023 RailNetEurope organized in Stockholm in cooperation with the EU Commission the Rail Transport Day 2023. The event gathered many high-level representatives from the European Commission, transport ministries and the rail sector. Even RFC AMBER had a delegation present at the meeting, which had many exchanges with customers, stakeholders and colleagues from other freight corridors.

Dear Business Partner, For the 7th time running, the 11 Rail Freight Corridors would like to initiate a coordinated consultation of all interested applicants, to collect your international capacity wishes and needs for the annual timetable 2024 and 2025. The result of this survey will be one of the main elements that the Rail Freight Corridors will use to build the PaP Catalogues for timetable 2025 and reserve capacity for timetable 2024.

On 18 May 2023 RFC AMBER held its first meeting in 2023 of the Railway and Terminal Advisory Groups, kindly hosted by METRANS at its premises in Dunajská Streda. During the meeting many important issues and possible approaches to improvements were discussed. A visit to the intermodal terminal of METRANS concluded the meeting.

RFC AMBER was present at the Transport&Logistics-fair in Munich from 9 to 12 of May in a joint stand of RailNetEurope and the RFC Network.

RNE announced the Call for Offers for the European Transport Market Study, which aims to provide an overview of the current state of the rail traffic market in the EU, focusing on both freight and passenger services. The study will provide traffic forecasts and recommendations to enhance the attractiveness of railway transport for the future.

RFC Amber is presenting its third Annual Report. This new report gives a comprehensive summary about the activities and achievements of 2021. In spite of this situation of uncertainty, several important achievements of RFC Amber during 2021 deserve to be highlighted.

Update of 12.07.2022: The restoration works have been finished, both tracks are operational. There is a speed restriction of 40 km/h at the scene of the accident (approximately 100m long).

RFC Amber was well present at the Connecting Europe Days, which took place in Lyon from 28-30 June. Our corridor participated in the joint stand of the RFC Network and RailNetEurope and the RFC Amber team had many useful talks with stakeholders and Representatives of the European Commission.

On 30 May Mr Kristian Schmidt, Director “Land Transport” at DG MOVE, addressed a letter to railway Infrastructure Managers in Europe, including RFC AMBER Members, on EU-Ukraine Solidarity Lanes. His letter included a map of Rail Freight Corridors, border crossing points and ports, which can be used when considering the export of Ukrainian products by rail. RFC AMBER is among the corridors explicitly outlined in this tentative map.

Hungarian railway Infrastructure Manager MÁV is currently implementing a project to facilitate cross-border operation of freight trains on three border sections between Hungary and Slovakia. Two of the sections, Komárom (HU) – Komárno (SK) and Hidasnémeti (HU) – Čaňa (SK) belong to RFC AMBER, of which we share the first one with our partner corridor RFC Orient/East-Med. A third rail border crossing, Bánréve – Lenartovce, is also part of the project.

The annual User Satisfaction Surveys (USS) of the EU Rail Freight Corridors were recently concluded for the year 2021. It is encourageing for RFC AMBER, that the results for our corridor show clear improvements compared to the previous year, when RFC AMBER participated for the first time in the survey. At the same time the survey also revealed room for further improvement.

After a very successful introduction of virtual sessions hosted by the RFC Network together with RailNetEurope (RNE) to celebrate the European Year of Rail 2021, we decided to continue the sessions in 2022 as well. We would like to invite you to our 3 sessions planned for the coming year.

On 15 November 2021 RFC AMBER held a meeting with the Railway and Terminal Advisory Groups (RAG-TAG) of the corridor. On 20 October 2021 freight train operator GYSEV CARGO operated the first 740 m long Demo-Train on the Sopron – Budapest section of the AMBER Rail Freight Corridor in the framework of the international CORCAP-project. Stakeholders of the corridor, including Representatives of the European Commission, the Hungarian Ministry for Innovation and Technology and from cooperating Rail Freight Corridors and project partners were able to accompany the train in two passenger coaches attached to it.

On 23 September 2021 the ALPINE-WESTERN BALKAN Rail Freight Corridor hold its Inauguration Event in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana. The Chair of the RFC AMBER Management Board and its Managing Director, Mrs. Andrea Mosóczi and Dr. Gerhard Troche, were present at the event and congratulated the Alpine – Western Balkan RFC to its establishment.

On 11 September the Connecting Europe Express (CEE) paid its first visit to Hungary when it made a half-day stop in Sopron. RFC AMBER was well present at the welcome event organised by RFC AMBER Member GYSEV at the Sopron station, attracting many visitors.

The Customer Information Platform (CIP), an internet-based application operated by RailNetEurope (RNE) on behalf of the Rail Freight Corridors (RFCs), has been successfully rolled out to the entire RFC Network. The information concerning the newest RFC (RFC Rhine-Danube) is now available in the CIP productive environment. With this, the CIP now provides customer-relevant information on railway infrastructure in 26 European countries covering the entire RFC Network.

There are currently 11 Rail Freight Corridors (RFCs) within the EU forming the RFC Network. They were developed based on EU Regulation 913/2010 to create a European rail network for competitive freight traffic. In order to better inform customers and stakeholders all RFCs jointly created and launched an RFC Network account on LinkedIn.

On 27th September 2020 at 13:44 two wagons of a freight train derailed between Komárno zriaď.st. and Chotín and damaged the substructure on a length of approximately 3 km. Due to the incident the single track line Nové Zámky - Komárno has been blocked. Trains can be rerouted via Bratislava - Rusovce/Rajka - Hegyeshalom, Břeclav - Vienna - Hegyeshalom and with limited access via Bratislava - Dunajska Streda - Komárno and Nové Zámky - Štúrovo/Szob - Budapest. The restoration of the track is expected until 16th October 2020.

Due to the heavy rainfall in the last days, during the day and in the evening on 17th June 2020 a lot of water and mud flowed and washed a lot of stones on the tracks and closed both of them on the line Budapest – Szob/Štúrovo - Bratislava. The situation regarding COVID-19 is constantly evolving in all countries of RFC Amber. The European Commission provides on its website an overview over transport measures concerning COVID-19 country by country and has issued Guidelines for border management measures to protect health and ensure the availability of goods and essential services.

The current coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has a far-reaching impact on our countries, societies and economies. However, there are for the time being no traffic restrictions imposed on freight traffic on RFC Amber.

On 25 September 2019 the Polish railway sector association ProKolej organized a conference “Rail 22 – Masterplan for rail freight” at TRAKO, the biggest railway fair in Central-Eastern Europe, taking place each second year in Gdańsk in Poland. The Managing Director of the Amber RFC, Dr. Gerhard Troche, represented the corridor in the roundtable.

On 18 September 2019 the Amber Rail Freight Corridor held its grand Opening Event in the prestigious Praetorian Palace in the Slovenian seaport of Koper. EU Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc, who gave an inspiring welcome address to the participants, congratulated the Amber Rail Freight Corridor to this historic milestone and emphasized the importance of the corridor for the development of international rail freight in Central-Eastern Europe.

The Amber RFC became operational in January 2019. It is the youngest among the ten operational EU Rail Freight Corridors and the first corridor set up on the initiative of the EU Member States concerned. In order to celebrate the achievement of this important milestone together with customers and stakeholders, the Amber RFC will hold its official Opening Event on 18 September 2019 in Koper in Slovenia.

With the publication of paths for international freight trains in mid-January 2019 the Amber Rail Freight Corridor reaches its operational phase. The main goal of the corridor is to facilitate competitive cross-border rail freight between important industrial centers and intermodal terminals of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia, including the Adriatic seaport of Koper, and to provide efficient links to Euro-Asian railway routes in Malaszewice at the border to Belarus and towards South-Eastern Europe via Kelebia, border station to Serbia.
